Abstract

A historical rescue of the forces that brought us to the process of profound ideological transformation that is underway in the contemporary world, resulting in the current context that gives its name to the work - The Great Retreat: Post-populism and Post-pandemic Politics, published in 2023 by Todavia. Italian sociologist Paolo Gerbaudo goes back to the effects of the 2008 economic crisis, when banking crises multiplied around the world and resulted in recession, to identify the point at which Western capitalism was thrown into political chaos. In this mapping, the author addresses conflicts and class alliances, the enemies of the nationalist right and socialist left, the new state interventionism and the rise and fall of globalization.
